I installed a new 2003 x64 server and made it the primary domain controller,
demoted the old controller and now that machine has been formatted. Only
afterwards i realized that the old machine was also the DNS server.

I am trying to install DNS on the current 2003 domain controller, DNS
service is installed fine however when trying to setup the forward lookup
zone i get the message

"The forward lookup zone cannot be added to the server. There was a server
failure"

Every other function of the server appears to be working fine. I have
restarted, retried, removed reloaded DNS etc. Cannot figure this out. Anyone
out there had this problem before ?

Neither of these ed. I noticed that during the DNS zone setup wizard if i
uncheck the option to store the DNS zone information in the Active directory
it works fine, this makes me now think it is something with the active
directory.

Any advise ?
