We have around 25 W2K3 DHCP servers. All but five of them do not have 135
Domain Suffix Search Order as an option. I know I can add it manually but I don't understand why some have the option and others don't. All of these were built as W2K3 from scratch (no upgrades) and all are managed by the same people to ensure (as best as humanly possible) their configs are the same. Anyone have an idea why some would be missing this, and other, options? Thanks ![]() |

The servers that have the option have had it added because by default Win2k3 DHCP does not have the option. -- Best regards, Kevin D. That's unlikely as I've checked with the other two folks that have access to
our servers (physical or remote) and there are five other options these servers have that the others don't. Something added them, but it wasn't us. These servers are pretty basic too. Just W2K3 DCs running DHCP & DNS. Any more ideas or thoughts on how some got the settings and others didn't? Thanks ![]() |

As unlikely as you say it is, someone added the option. It is not there by default on any version of Win2k3, I know of. Unless your dealing with Win2k3R2, I can't say for sure R2 doesn't have the option. There is a way to add options classes to DHCP with Netsh.exe, but my searches haven't found the one you want. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Kevin
![]() I appreciate your responses to my posts but I'm still feeling like there is some other explanation out there other than one of the admins manually created these 5 entries on 20 servers but not on 5 other servers and don't remember doing it. This is why I say it's unlikely that they were created manually. I can, however, believe some 'thing' created them but we can't figure out what's unique about these 5 servers though and that's what's driving us crazy. We are running R2 but on all 25 servers so I didn't think that was it. I know we can just add them manually but it is still concerning to us that we're doing everything possible to keep these servers standard so we don't waste time when troubleshooting problems and yet differences are creeping up, albeit benign differences thus far. Not having the vendor or someone else be able to explain why something is happening is just not what we're used to from our server platform. I welcome any other ideas of things to check. Otherwise, I'm off to open a ticket with MS to see if they can explain it. If I find anything from that end, I'll pass it on here. Thanks ![]() |

I have not had the opportunity to manage an R2 server yet, it is possible that it is an Advanced DHCP option on R2. Have you checked all your Advanced DHCP options? -- Best regards, Kevin D. They do not show up under any of the Advanced options on the servers that
don't have it under the regular options ![]() |
