Who knows if I can limit the DNS cache size on a DNS server running on
a Windows 2003 domain controller?

I don't think so -- but someone else may know of a registry entry
however.

Are you really experiencing any soft of trouble due to the cache
being too large?

Usually the cache is managed by TIME, not size. The TTL from
the authoritative source of the record is the main parameter, but
I have heard of another "max" setting which can reduce this on
your own DNS server.

AFAIK, there is no limit on DNS cache size, you can limit cache time, by
default all MS DNS servers have a Maximum cache time (TTL) of 86400 seconds
(1 day) You can add a MaxCacheTtl DWORD entry in seconds to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\DNS\Parameters to
increase or decrease the maximum cached time.
