Hi all,
I am trying to setup a Windows 2000 server as a dns while it's
forwarder pointing outside to my isp. Now the Domain name is like NT4
style (mycorp, instead of FQDN like mycorp.com ). When I am adding the
forwarders, I found that the dns setup program won't let me do it
because it said the server is already a root dns. Could anyone point me
out how I can solve it?

You must delete your root zone in order for this to work. Just highlight the
"." (dot) (root) zone, and hit the delete key. After that you won't be a
root server (no need to be anyway) and forwarders will work as expected.

In addition, deleting the Root zone causes the Root Hints to load and
forwarders won't be required for external resolution.

This is a single-label DNS name which breaks Dynamic DNS registrations on
Win2kSP4 and later, WinXP, and Win2k3, you will need to make registry
entries for all these OS's.
