I have 2 zones called lab.domain.com and library.domain.com. Both zones
have a (same as parent folder) and * records that points to the same IP address. When you perform an NSLOOKUP on the IP address only the lab.domain.com is listed. Is there a way to make both show up with NSLOOKUP and/or can I reverse it so that only library.domain.com is listed. I was thinking that lab.domain.com zone was created first and is the reason why its record shows up and not the library.domain.com. I haven't found any documentation to confirm. Thanks. |

Unlike a DNS name, which can have multiple A records, an IP address will
only display 1 (PTR) record. There may be multiple entries in the zonefile, but I think you are correct that only the first is used. Assuming you are using DNS dynamic updates, view the properties (double-click it) of the A record that you want to have associated to the PTR and place a check in "Update associated pointer (PTR) record. Make sure the other A record is unchecked. If you aren't using dynamic updates, then just delete the PTR that you don't want to use. -- Greg Lindsay [MSFT] Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
