I have a number of networked printers with fixed IP addresses, but these are
not shown in the DNS management screen -only PCs are listed. Is there some way I can add these and if so, how? I can see facilities for adding 'other new records' but the types listed do not include printers. Any advice appreciated. |

Add a new host with the name the printer is accessed by, with the printer's IP. I don't know of any printers that can register their own records in DNS, if they could, if the zone allows only secure updates, the printer would have to present domain credentials to the DNS server before it could update DNS. If a printer is using DHCP and you have a Win2k3 DHCP server, the DHCP server could make the secure registration for the printer. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Thanks - this worked. I had thought that anything with an IP should show up
automatically, but now I have the printers and switches all accounted for. Allocating an address to a printer that I had already allocated to a switch caused odd problems recently! |
