Par défaut Secondary DNS server replacement

Hi all,

Thank you for your in advance!! The following is my situation:

I have a new server to replace an old DNS secondary server. The new server
will use the original old server name and IP address. I will also follow the
article ID 816518 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816518/en-us to configure
the new server as a secondary DNS. My question is… would there be any issues
that the new server (again, with the same name and IP as the old one had)
would have some hard time to get the zone transfer/DNS replication later on
with the primary DNS server?

Or anyone have any advice?

Thank you!

Bobson

Is it just a DNS server or is it an Active Directory Domain Controller?

Hi Kevin,

In fact, it is a Domain Controller, but please let me clarify something
(Thank you for asking).

First, the zone where the AD belongs to, is running AD-Integrated. But at
the same time, there are some other zones which are not "AD" replicated from
another primary DNS. In other words, this server is a secondary DNS for those
zones.

I am going to replace this old secondary DNS serve with another new hardware
by using same name and IP. Do you there would be any problme in replicating
with the primary DNS (This is my original quesiton)?

Please feel free to let me know if I say it clear about my situation so you
can me out : -) Sincerely appreciate your .

If it is a domain controller, and you are replacing it, any new domain
controller you add is going to have to be with a different name, until this
box has been DCPromoed out of the domain. Until then, you probably better
leave its IP address alone, too.
