I am moving websites to a new server.
How do I address websites on the new server before the names servers are transferred? For example, if the new server's IP address is 88.208.210.218 and the website is www.upperbridge.co.uk. Thanking you in anticipation. |

I am moving all my websites from their current server to a new server. I can
set up the DNS, IIS, mail and database links on the new server and upload the pages. I would like to test each website on the new server before changing the name servers. How can I address the website on the new server from a client browser before changing the name servers? If I enter http://88.208.210.218 I get a "Site under construction" page.
I have set up several websites on the new server that has an IP address of 88.308.210.218. How do I look at from a client browser a specific website without changing the name servers to this new server? Unless you can use a different set of name servers, for the client that provides the new server's IP address, the only way is to add the name and new IP to the hosts file off the client you are testing from. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Sorry, Kevin, this newby to servers doesn't understand your reply.
Perhaps best by example. currently rootsdevelopment.co.uk is operating on server with name servers ns1 (and ns2).livedns.co.uk. I have a new server with name servers ns1 (and ns2).upperbridge.co.uk, whose IP address is 88.208.210.218. I have set up rootsdevelopment.co.uk on 88.208.210.218 and would like to test it before changing this domains name servers to nsX.upperbridge.co.uk. I do not have other name servers. How do I set up rootsdevelopment.co.uk on 88.208.210.218 so that I can test it from a client browser? Thanking you in anticipation. "Kevin D. How do I set up > rootsdevelopment.co.uk on > 88.208.210.218 so that I can test it from a client browser? Temporarily change your client's DNS in TCP/IP properties, to 88.208.201.208. I've echecked the server and it is answering authoritatively for rootsdevelopment.co.uk. -- Best regards, Kevin D. This is because of your IIS configuration. There are 3 ways to resolve a
web site in IIS: 1. host headers 2. port 3. IP address Since you said you have several web sites set up and you access them all via one IP address, I am going to assume you are using host headers. See the link below. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...c62b1f6c0.mspx If you have set up the path to each of your web sites beneath the default IIS home page, then you should be able to get to them by simply adding the directory (http://88.208.210.218/foo/) However, it's possible that you have the directories somewhere else that isn't viewable by simply digging down a directory or two. I think you can get around this by using virtual directories.
