Please , i have a multihomed Standard Server 2003, i replaced the
internal nic for a Dlink 1Gb nic (was on local area connection 1) now on 3.
The Server can access the internet but the workstations can't. To
troubleshoot this so far i have turned TCP/IP filtering on the adaptor and
removed the routing & remote access role, i then ran the remote wizard to
reinstate the role. i can now ping both interfaces and successfully trace to
a public website, however i cannot get into the routers web interface, or
access the internet via internet explorer 6 from the workstations, any advice
would be greatly appreciated

Post the output of the IPCONFIG /ALL from the server and a workstation.

Does the server have a Proxy Server running on it?
I ask this because unless the server has a Proxy server or some other
filtering software, ISA why do you have your clients connecting to the
internet through the server?

In the absence of a filtering proxy, there really no benefit to have clients
accessing the internet through the server. That said, for this to work you
need NAT installed on the server.

Thank You Kevin for your reply.

No there is no proxy server installed!

I understand the long term benefits that we should reconfigure the
workstations directly and remove the multihomed config on the server.

However as this is now critical would setting up NAT on the server be an
immediate solution and if so what would be the best way to do this.

I don't understand as up until last Thurs this config was working fine until
I replaced the onboard nic to a PCI 1Gb version!!!!

Thank you in adavnce for your time and assisstance

Hi,

is 192.168.0.1 a router? does it have a wan interface and how does it
translate i am assuming napt?
is 10.0.0.2 a dns server that can forward requests?

trace route to the 192.168.0.1 if that works tracert to the external
interface of the router if that works resovle the ip address of yahoo.co.uk
on a working system (they respond to pings) and try to ping the ip address
of the yahoo domain.

Note: right click and rename the connections in the network control panel
when you get a chance

by this i mean from "Local Area Connection #":

call one "internal network" or something and another "external" or whatever
suits you, it will make the IPconfig output easy to understand

Regards,

Mike

If it worked until you replaced the NIC, then at that time you had NAT
installed. All you would have had to done at that time was to add the new
NIC as an NAT enabled interface.
As for now, I'm not sure if NAT is still installed in RRAS, if it's not add
NAT, then add the two interfaces with NAT enabled on the external interface,
and the internal interface configured as a private interface.
It's really a pretty straight forward configuration. Win2k3 RRAS labels each
interface rather plainly.

We have done everything you said through the wizard in RRAS.

But still no joy....

Can you think of anything else it might be!!!!!
