I hate to ask this since so many people have asked the same question before
and there are so many answers to the problem, but I've spent days on this and nothing seems to work and I'm afraid that I'm going to make it unfixable. It probably doesn't that I'm sitting in a lounge trying to administer it remotely and it's really difficult to concentrate. Basically, the local (ns)domain works fine and mail makes it through. I get the error message from the virtual domains which share the same IP as my primary (ns) domain. ns# postconf -n alias_maps = hash:/etc/mail/aliases command_directory = /usr/local/sbin config_directory = /usr/local/etc/postfix daemon_directory = /usr/local/libexec/postfix debug_peer_level = 2 html_directory = no inet_interfaces = all mail_owner = postfix mailq_path = /usr/local/bin/mailq manpage_directory = /usr/local/man mydestination = me.com mydomain = me.com myhostname = smtp.me.com myorigin = $myhostname newaliases_path = /usr/local/bin/newaliases queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix readme_directory = no relay_domains = $mydestination, /etc/mail/relay-domains sample_directory = /usr/local/etc/postfix sendmail_path = /usr/local/sbin/sendmail setgid_group = maildrop soft_bounce = yes unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 virtual_alias_domains = virtual1.org virtual2.com virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/mail/virtual >>maillog line<< Apr 22 00:43:19 ns postfix/smtp[4111]: 68A83176235: to=<fred@smtp.me.com>, orig_to=<cannon@virtual1.com>, relay=none, delay=1, status=SOFTBOUNCE (mail for smtp.me.com loops back to myself) If someone could take a look at it and see where I'm being an idiot, I'd really appreciate it.
