I need to convert a marketing DVD that we have made into an FLV for playback on
our company network.

At home on my Mac I've used StreamClip to convert VOB files into something
more useful. I see that StreamClip has a windows version. Anybody have
experience with the windows version? Is it any different? Anything better (for
free)?

At work I've got to work with Windows XP. So does anybody have any good advice
on tools and tricks to take DVDs (non-protected) to Flash?

You might try DVDRip, but I believe it rips the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders,
and you end up with those. From there, I can't recall, at the moment, a
program that converts to a usable video file to convert to FLV.

Hi. Thanks for the tip. Since these are in-house produced DVDs, they aren't
copyprotected and I've got the _TS folders.

I see that StreamClip on windows also requires the MPEG-2 software for QT, so
I'm guessing it works just the same on the windows side.

But if anybody else has any suggestions of what has worked for them...

It doesn't work for me every time -- I have no idea why -- but
occasionally, I have been able to simply rename the VOB file to MPG and
import that into Premiere (or whatever video editor). The DVD encoding
format is MPEG, after all. Worth a shot.

Years ago, I used DVDx (https://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdx/). It
looks like they still have a free version, but also a new "ultra" version
for pay.

Thanks David. I remember hearing that trick and it never worked for me on my Mac, but I'll give it a try on the PC side.
