I'm using Flash 8 and I've created some animation that I want to export as a
Quicktime .mov file. When I try to publish I get the error message that I have to select Flash Player 5. I've done this (and several other versions) and it still doesn't work. Can someone me solve this problem? Thanks.:confused; |

In all versions of Flash before CS3, Flash could not output to Quicktime if a
file contains movie clips or ActionScript. It will also not output to Quicktime any effects from Flash such as the Flash 8 filters. Plus other technical quirks. First save a copy of your FLA (don't mess up the original) with the publish settings set to Flash 5 Player. See whether there are any error messages when you save. If so, then depending on the errors, you may need to rebuild your animation. If no errors, then try exporting it to SWF (again, Flash 5 format) and then view that SWF to see whether everything appears correct. If not, then you can't export it to Quicktime. The easiest (and most expensive) solution is to upgrade to Flash CS3, or perhaps try the 30-day trial. They finally fixed this issue, after years of complaints about it, so you can pretty much export any Flash animation to Quicktime. In fact, this is the sole reason I recently upgraded to CS3, since a client needs MOV and SWF format for some complex animated episodes. Otherwise I'd be like you, comfortable and satisfied with Flash 8. |
