Hi,
At a college where I teach the image editing software is Fireworks 8. I need
to be able to resize or scale an image to a specific width in pixels, however
when I select scale the properties box does not appear to offer the ability to
retain the ratio of size. I can alter the size on the picture by dragging the
control nodes but this does not provide info on the actual size. I'm sure I saw
a box on the properties area which enabled me to lock height width ratio and
alter one dimension when I used this program before, however this seems to have
disappeared now. What am I doing wrong please?

Modify > Transform > Numeric Transform should do the job.
