Is it a blank page? 8) Seriously, what's on the page? Can we see the code? > 2. How do you make the site online so people can see it? Press F1 and read DW's about how to define a remote site and use DW's FTP to PUT/GET files. > 3. How do you make it that people need to make a account in order to use > the site? Given question 1 and 2, it'll be some months before you are ready for this answer.... -- Murray --- ICQ 71997575 Adobe Community Expert (If you *MUST* email me, don't LAUGH when you do so!) ================== http://www.projectseven.com/go - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources http://www.dwfaq.com - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources ================== "gvwevb" <webforumsuser@macromedia.com> wrote in message news:g4e21r$d5u$1@forums.macromedia.com... > 1. Localhost is a local address, meaning that none of us will be able to see it.
And from the looks of the link you gave the path is bad. You need to go into Manage Sites and make sure the paths are correct. At this point the testing server should be local. There should not be a C:/ in your address. |

Follow these instructions from Adobe about setting up your testing server. Be
sure the information is correct, because I suspect from your path that your URL Prefix is not correct. http://livedocs.adobe.com/dreamweave...on/html/ww. htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=25_web18.htm |

Asking the questions is fine. Murray is one of the most ful people here.
But when it comes to the basic setup of the program, Murray's standpoint is that DW is not for beginners. The program does require a certain level of knowledge to allow for an efficient workflow. This is why he answered your initial question the way he did. The setup instructions I gave you to which is right out of the DW . Since the setup depends on your preferences in many cases there is sometimes not much we can do in the way of giving you specifics for every answer. For instance, with the Site setup that I pointed you to it asks for the Server Technology. That would be something that would be determined by the server you host your website on. And setting up the local server depends on that as well. Those instructions will give you a pretty good start. As I stated in my previous post, being that your URL contains C:/ I suggested that the URL prefix in the settings is wrong. Those instructions tell you what to look at. Those settings are in the Site->Manage Sites portion of DW. If items are not showing up after doing this you will either need to show us via a live link on the internet, or at the very least, go into Code View in DW and post the code here. In regards to the instructions, when it comes to setting up the program, they are fairly similar between versions. There may be minor differences here and there but if you see one feel free to ask. In regards to your second and third question, in order to put the files online you need to have hosting and they will provide you with the details to set up the FTP in DW. In regards to the third question, and this is meant with no offense to you, but this is above and beyond where you should be starting. If you do need log in areas for your website, I would highly recommend looking into CMS (Content Management System) solutions to solve your problem. They will allow you to do this much easier. There are also pre-made login scripts at websites like http://www.hotscripts.com . This is much easier than setting it up yourself especially if you have not done programming before. So don't take some of these comments the wrong way. The community here at Adobe is probably one of the most ful I have been around and they are here to you. Just be sure to always give as much information as possible to us you out. |
