Hey guys! Hopefuly someone call me figure this out. What I'm wanting to
do it have a 'frame' of navigation and graphics that is completley fixed. Doens't change when you navigate to a different page, doesn't scroll. Instead, I want the information in the middle of the page to change depending on the link and I want the middle only to be scrollable. The 'frame' will include images, a flash logo, flash buttons, an auto scroller for sponsor information and basic copy right info on the bottom. I wouldn't say I'm 'proficient' in DW, but I know my way around pretty well. Any ideas? |

What you are referring to is an html frame. These should be avoided for many reasons. Why do you need to have these 'fixed elements' ? What's wrong with just linking to other pages?

Sure. DON'T USE FRAMES A properly designed and constructed site will behave as you describe; navigation and graphics completely fixed. Using DW's Templates with those elements in non-editable regions makes that easier. -- Walt "Oestaira" <webforumsuser@macromedia.com> wrote in message news:g4b2ia$5j$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Hey guys! I understand how to use DW templates. I also understand what HTML frames are.
What I'm referring to, however, is if there is a way to achieve this effect WITHOUT using the dreaded standard 'frame' code in HTML. I don't want my 'template' to move at all. Only the information that changes within the box in the middle. I know this is possible with background images and such, but is it possible with other elements WITHOUT using the pain the butt standard frames? |

I have used iframes (aka inline frames) on occasion but I wouldn't want to
use them on an entire website. Example here: http://alt-web.com/gallery.shtml --Nancy O. Walt, Alan; I am exploring alternatives. If you have none to suggest in a constructive manner, please spare me.

They gave you constructive advice. If you simply create a page and link to another page that contains the same 'static' elements, then those other elements won't move. Why isn't this method working for you? |

If you want the page to have different scrolling areas that reload content
without the entire page reloading, just build the entire site in FLASH and deal with it not being in the search engines, not printable, not dozens of other things. Or- make each "page" a page. That's constructive advice. If you don't think it is, please spare ME from your complaints a month down the road when you complain about what you've been warned about. > Walt, Alan; I am exploring alternatives. >Walt, Alan; I am exploring alternatives. If you have none to suggest in >a constructive manner, please spare me. They've already given you the best advice: One document, one URL, simply linked to each other. Easy, reliable and userfriendly. That's how the Web works. Micha |
