I'm looking for a way to offer an MP3 to be played from a web page, with a
player of some kind. In other words, I don't want to just link to the MP3
and have it play in the user's default player, but have a player on the page
with controls for playing the audio file. I don't need a "jukebox", but just
a simple player for 1 file.

Any suggestions? (I know that Google is my friend, and we have been spending
time together on this question, but it's not as good a friend as live people
with experience. :-))

I used the flash based xspf player on a http://www.blastoffmusic.org to play
music (not on the home page, but most others). It can be configured to use a
playlist (which is what we did), or it can play a single file.

followed this tutorial and found it pretty simple to do what I needed (and
for free):
