This past weekend I updated and cleaned up the home page and faculty/staff
page at one of our school's which the previous principal had created in FrontPage a couple of years ago but the current principal was occasionally having trouble with. Everything was working fine until the principal corrected a problem on the faculty/staff page for a teacher no longer at that school. When it was posted, the page came up in a centered, single-column. It included most of the items on the page but there was no background either. What would cause this, and how can it be prevented? I loaded the page into Dreamweaver and reset everything, but am concerned about it happening again and he needs to be able to make additions/subtractions as needed. The URL is http://jordan.ccs135.com/faculty and staff.htm Thanks for any , ideas, or suggestions on what's going on, Tim |

Using anything but FrontPage on a site originally created in FrontPage is a
dangerous thing to do, and you may have just discovered that, unfortunately. This is true by virtue of the way the FrontPage (server) extensions play into the picture, requiring that files be uploaded NOT using FTP protocols, but by using FrontPage's HTTP protocols. Unfortunately this means that once the original committment to FrontPage has been made, one is locked into continued use of that (now obsolete) authoring system until and unless the entire site is rebuilt. I am unable to retrieve any webpage at your link or even at http://jordan.ccs135.com, so I cannot comment further about what might have happened or ways to prevent it. -- Murray --- ICQ 71997575 Adobe Community Expert (If you *MUST* email me, don't LAUGH when you do so!) ================== http://www.projectseven.com/go - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources http://www.dwfaq.com - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources ================== "Tim Ferguson" <Tlf1@ccs135.com> wrote in message news:47FDDBD6.1AD2.00BD.3@ccs135.com... > This past weekend I updated and cleaned up the home page and faculty/staff > page at one of our school's which the previous principal had created in > FrontPage a couple of years ago but the current principal was occasionally > having trouble with. That may explain then why, after I created an entirely new page for the home
page using DW 8, that his changes did not create havoc. I did copy and paste from the old home page after creating tables, etc. Maybe I need to do the same with the faculty/staff page? We are running an Apache server on NetWare 6.5, so should the extensions still be an issue? Thanks for your although I'm not sure why you're not able to access the site. Although they should be on the local HD as well, a file is often directly opened, changes/corrections made, and then saved which is not necessarily a good practice because the local version doesn't get updated. Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.ccs135.com. I dunno.... > These files are not FTP'd, but are saved through a drive mapping to the > school folder on the web server. YIKES. So, one mistake and you have just hosed the live file? Maybe you can tell that I'm uncomfortable with this working environment? 8) At least the FTP thing is not (yet) part of the equation. But seriously, if you are going to be working with DW, you should always work out of a local site. You can configure your Remote site to the production server, and use either FTP or Local/Network as your connection methodology. -- Murray --- ICQ 71997575 Adobe Community Expert (If you *MUST* email me, don't LAUGH when you do so!) ================== http://www.projectseven.com/go - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources http://www.dwfaq.com - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources ================== "Tim Ferguson" <Tlf1@ccs135.com> wrote in message news:47FDF40B.1AD2.00BD.3@ccs135.com... > >The use of spaces in your file/pathnames hasn't ed (that's also a > >very > >>dangerous habit), but would not explain why I cannot even access the >>parent > >>domain. Just one more question when you get a chance, please. What is the policy
in regard to being able to run Dreamweaver, etc., at work and home? Purchase it for each? I have it on my desktop here at the office and have been using VNC to remote into it in order to run Dreamweaver not wishing to violate anything. Try just www.ccs135.com or > www.ccs135.com/jordan . Tim, doing an nslookup gives that domain an IP of 192.168.20.1 um, the 192.168 octets are normally reserved for internal networks I do see a 209.174.197.163 as an additional IP for that domain. But when I ping it, it returns the 192 address. An nslookup on your Centralia address returns the 209 address above. You've got DNS issues, my friend. |
