Par défaut GRUB loader hangs in to message "savedefault" in Debian etch and load error in Ubuntu.

Hi,

Im very new with this linux systems and have a first problem already... but I fix it just now with good luck

I struggle with this problem couple a days and installing many times operating system and try and try....

Problem was solved when I change in BIOS settings -> IDE DMA TRANSFER ACCESS - "ENABLED"

if that setting is in "DISABLED" position, I get allways "savedefault" message and debian etch (Ubuntu) never load and work at all..

Motherboard is Commell LV-672 and with Celeron Dprocessor.

Regards,

Possibly this is related to bugs.debian.org/462701, which was recently
fixed. savedefault causes grub to try to write to the disk on bootup;
under some circumstances (a reiser file system was mentioned) it can't,
and it gets hung up. I think the "savedefault" option is no longer part
of the default configuration for GRUB on Debian. You can disable it
yourself, and if you get hung up while starting the system you can edit
this option out for that particular startup.

You don't provide details of the error you ran into (the exact events
leading up to it and the text of the error message), and your solution
sounds as if it's a different issue. I mention it just in case there's
some overlap.
