Hello, Has anyone tried the Open WebMail Project located at: http://openwebmail.org/ ? I'm looking for a new open webmail program to replace the old webmail I'm using now on my mail servers. This looks OK from what I have seen on the surface but it does use CGI's instead of PHP which I think PHP's would be a better choice. One of the things I'm looking for is the ability to work with large mail files. I'm kind of surprised that "Open WebMail Project" in not included in Debian... Thanks, Ken Rea -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@lists.debian.org |

I could stand it when I had to use it, and I imagine Windows users would be comfortable with it. > I'm looking for a new open webmail program to replace the old webmail I'm > using now on my mail servers. Frankly, I prefer CGI's over PHP, but I'm also the type who would use C for his CGIs. :-) > One of the things I'm looking for is the ability to work with large mail > files. I've had mail fail at new ISP when something truly despicable was waiting, but I don't remember that happening w OWM. -- Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced. It had a reasonable user interface, and no glaring bugs that I ran into. Attachment handling was decent as well. The only reason I stopped using it is it got so I had an IMAP client on every machine I used, so I no longer needed it. > This looks OK from what I have seen on the > surface but it does use CGI's instead of PHP which I think PHP's > would be > a better choice. I think it's a Perl CGI. I don't think there's any major reason PHP would be better, unless you're planning on modifying the code and are more comfortable with PHP. > One of the things I'm looking for is the ability to work with large > files. It's pretty efficient, but does slow down as the mailboxes get bigger -- like all programs that support flat mbox mail files. If you want good performance with really big mailboxes, you need to use something that uses a database or maildir format. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
