I recently reinstalled Etch and found afterwards that 'wine' failed when
trying to run ChessBaseLight (it was working before reinstall). In the course of trying to solve the problem, i removed 'wine' and tried to install the winehq.org version, which is a newer version than from debian repository. so far i have not been able to reinstall 'wine'. the gory details: sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/...st.d/etch.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list kloro@debian:/sD/kloro/zips$ sudo apt-get update Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r2 _Etch_ - Official i386 NETINST Binary-1 20080103-00:44] etch Release.gpg Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r2 _Etch_ - Official i386 NETINST Binary-1 20080103-00:44] etch Release Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r2 _Etch_ - Official i386 NETINST Binary-1 20080103-00:44] etch/contrib Packages/DiffIndex Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r2 _Etch_ - Official i386 NETINST Binary-1 20080103-00:44] etch/main Packages/DiffIndex Get:1 http://ftp.debian.org etch Release.gpg [378B] Get:2 http://security.debian.org etch/updates Release.gpg [189B] Hit http://ftp.debian.org etch Release Hit http://security.debian.org etch/updates Release .. .. .. .. Hard to say, but in my experience, wine will work with a particular program fine for several versions, then break (partially or completely) for a version or two, then work again. In any case it is possible to up-to-date debs from here: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb They have an etch version now, and it is possible to use the Ubuntu versions on Debian - I am using Sid with the Ubuntu Gutsy wine debs. Even when the main Debian Wine has been up-to-date, I have had better luck with the above-mentioned version. But yeah, I see your point. I suppose it could be handy to convert CB files to pgn which scid could then import. I think ChessBaseLite has a limit on the database size and restrictions on what you can save etc, is that right? -- Chris. ====== -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
