You should have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psiphon and that may give you some . I am unaware of any specific debian packages for bypassing net censorship but there is free software available. I don't know if it too is blocked??? Thanks! Don't worry. I know the government allow what, doesn't allow what. If you post
antigovernment message in popular BBS, or protest before government building, then you'll quickly run into trouble. I don't believe government have time monitor this list. This list is high-traffic, but few Chinese join the list, so my message's effect is limited. My message is in English, further limiting its effect. You know, Newsweek, Time magazine of English version are publicly sold in big stores of big Chinese cities. In private, we Chinese can say anything. --- "Andrew M.A. Cater" <amacater@galactic.demon.co.uk> wrote: > On Sat, Jun 02, 2007 at 10:37:10PM -0700, Serena Cantor wrote: > > I'm in mainland China. XieXie(Thanks)!
government block wikipedia, I use google search Psiphon and visit 2 sites of 1st search result page, both are blocked. Maybe the rest are blocked too. The page entry is interested: psiphon.ca/download.php NOTE: If you live in a country that censors your Internet access, you DO NOT need to download psiphon. You need to find a psiphonode provider. ... Hopefully someone can send me the page. --- Jonathan Kaye <jdkaye10@yahoo.es> wrote: > Serena Cantor wrote: > > > I'm in mainland China. The government may or may not have the time to monitor this list, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Computers do these searches, not people. There are a lot of anonymizing tools out there, but they are only as effective as the user. Please take the time to thoroughly read the documentation that comes with Tor and Privoxy, then do a solid implementation. Also, be sure you are taking other steps to ensure your privacy as well. Which is a good reason to use odd word spacing, mis-spelled words or other forms to confuse computers: eg. \/ia9ra spelllling. Chinese police has most advanced filter technology in the world.
but I believe police don't think this list is worth of monitoring because there are too few Chinese here. Even if police find out what I do here (this is very very unlikely), I don't believe I'll be punished. I just get some dangerous info. What worry police is sending dangerous info to a lot of Chinese people. --- Klein Moebius <klein.moebius@gmail.com> wrote: > * Serena Cantor <qipaishi2006@yahoo.com> [2007-06-03 03:09:33 -0700]: > > > Thanks! I've often wondered how Tor could really be effective at thwarting censorship attempts by a government such as China's. Tor needs access to Tor servers, a list of which are publicly available, as they must be, or else one's local Tor client wouldn't be able to find them. It would therefore seem trivial for an interested government to simply block them at its firewall. I suppose a secret list of Tor entry points could be maintained, but that would hugely complicate Tor usage.
