Could anyone please advise me on reporting upgrade problems with the
unstable distribution (sid). I have not found any place to adress such information. Perhaps the unstable team is continously aware of such problems and would only be unnececarily bothered by regular users sending in reports? This is the normal procedure for any bugs in debian. The only exception are issues with new installs or stable->stable upgrades. so, 'reportbug PKGNAME' is what you'd do. When the OP states 'reporting upgrade problems with the unstable distribution (sid)', clarification is needed: *what package*? Previously Sid problems were addressed in this list, but sometimes the cause is not clear. E.g. I have xmms (Sid) segfaulting in 2.6.21-sd046 and not in 2.6.20-7-sd046, is that a result of xmms or "something else"(TM). Not clear... ;-) Hugo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@lists.debian.org |

I have always found that developers/maintainers are excited to receive bug reports and fix them. Bugs with patches are the best, IMHO. Before reporting any bugs, please search the BTS (http://bugs.debian.org) and see if it is already reported. I suggest using reportbug as it automatically collects info such as your distribution, versions of dependencies installed etc., Regarding upgrading issues, usually it is something like one of the dependenices has not yet made into the queue. So wait for a couple of days and if you still have upgrading issues, then please report it. hth raju -- Kamaraju S Kusumanchi http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/kk288/ http://malayamaarutham.blogspot.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I've had mixed results reporting bugs; some have received prompt and sustained attention until resolution, while some have been completely or almost completely ignored. I'm not knocking the devs; they do a tremendous job, often pro bono. I'm just warning people that their MMV with bug reporting. Of course one should still report bugs, since it will often, probably usually, yield some progress or at least a public record of the issue.
