Greetings;
It seems that the testing dist has more good stuff in it than stable, but how do I upgrade? I tried doing a network install but neither of the choices to build init.rd worked, so that was a few hours wasted. I have a working install of stable/sarge running. Can I start from there somehow, or is that even more involved and lengthy? Oh yeah. When I get to that point, which kernel do I choose? I have a P4 but I have no idea which to use except for 386. Many thanks, again! Dennis -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@lists.debian.org |

Since etch is almost 'stable', I'd think that it would cover 99% of the issues involved. - -- | .''`. == Debian GNU/Linux == | my web site: | | : :' : The Universal |mysite.verizon.net/kevin.mark/| | `. `' Operating System | go to counter.li.org and | | `- http://www.debian.org/ | be counted! #238656 | | my keyserver: subkeys.pgp.net | my NPO: cfsg.org | |join the new debian-community.org to Debian! | -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFGCtLDv8UcC1qRZVMRAgwFAJ41rPiQTuUZvjGWd5rws4 CXHV8nBQCfTie6 qY42xeG5/2OFXZKxf/CrCWI= =hDny -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Edit /etc/apt/sources.list to include source lines for etch, run 'aptitude update && aptitude upgrade', then 'aptitude dist-upgrade'. During the last stept you have to make sure aptitude doesn't try to remove packages you really need. Maybe you have to run it a few times to resolve all dependencies. That's it. > I tried doing a network install but neither of the choices to build > init.rd worked, so that was a few hours wasted. Why do you need to build an initrd yourself when installing from scratch? > Oh yeah. When I get to that point, which kernel do I choose?
