Looking at the web page at www.openssh.com there is no link to download
OpenSSH. I have used OpenSSH for many years. I just tried to installing version 3.8.1p1 (client only) on Vista, and ssh is saying that the private key file has 644 permissions. NOTE: I am not using Cygwin, just OpenSSH alone. I have tried many things with file security but can not get past this problem. In searching the web I see there is a 4.6p1 version, but I can not find a download of this version, for Windows. Can anyone ? Thanks, Paul |

AKAIK there's no such animal. Certainly not one provided/supported by the OpenSSH team. There was a third-party "OpenSSH for Windows" project on Sourceforge but that's just a stripped-down Cygwin with OpenSSH, and last time I looked it hadn't been updated for years. I suspect that the bundled Cygwin bits don't support Vista. You can just use the version of OpenSSH bundled with Cygwin. If you want a stand-alone bundle then there's a more up-to-date one called CopSSH, which you can find a link to here: http://www.openssh.com/windows.html -- Darren Tucker (dtucker at zip.com.au) GPG key 8FF4FA69 / D9A3 86E9 7EEE AF4B B2D4 37C9 C982 80C7 8FF4 FA69 Good judgement comes with experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgement. |

There's an old bug with certain anti-virus software that causes problems for the SSH daemon doing a re-exec, which requires the undocumented '-R' option ot allow the daemon to run. |
