Par défaut UDP Speed Test 2.94 now available !

Hello

UDP Speed Test 2.94 is now available !

Improvements:

+ Algorithm bug fixed: Random Data Sizes was not working correctly.

The software can be downloaded at:

http:/www.myjavaserver.com/~skybuck

^^^ A great tool for testing ip fragmentation and re-assembly as well. ^^^

Bye,
Skybuck.

How does this application work on IPv6?
Keep in mind UDP for IPv6 can now be a reliable transport.

I am not convinced IPv6 is the correct solution for the internet

Why not simply increase the IPv4 address space from 32 bit to 64 bit and
call it IPv5.

Router software would then probably need minor software updates to be able
to handle 64 bit internet addressess as well.

64 bit routers would have to route packets directly to other 64 bit routers
as a sort of 64 bit tunnel... because the 32 bit routers do not understand
the 64 bit packets.

So that would require a 64 bit packet to be wrapped inside a 32 bit packet
to be able to route it through 32 bit routers.

Seems simple enough to make it work.

However IPv6 adds lots of other overhead like an additional 64 bit and extra
protocol stuff like encryption and god knows what

What I don't like about IPv6 is the insane long addressess, and the extra
overhead and new features and such.

Is that really necessary ? I remain unconvinced lol.

So I will wait and see if IPv6 will happen or not happen

Ok there is some kind of wacky "short hand" for IPv6 addressess but still...
most cpu's still 64 bit... Delphi my favorite programming language doesn't
even have support for a native 128 bit data type as far as I know ???

No idea about that haven't looked into it.

Maybe IPv6 is a bridge too far

Bye,
Skybuck.

Okay, I'll bite. How does IPv6 mean that UDP can now be a reliable
transport?
