Hi,
im setting some firewall rules for Samba Swat recently, and im using Ethereal for my packets sniffer, following is part of Ethereal output: No. Time Source Destination 110 3.068058 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 No. Time Source Destination 111 3.069289 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.2 my host's ip is 192.168.1.2, however, i can't understand the difference between a packet send from localhost to localhost and from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.2, any ideas, thanks. |

There is no real difference. Both are sent over the loopback interface. As you should never firewall your loopback interface the difference is moot anyway. M4 -- Redundancy is a great way to introduce more single points of failure. |
