I was just wondering if something was going on.
A month or so ago, i stopped finding any new postings on the list. Activity is now back, but at a much reduced rate. It sort of feels like most participants have left and no one told me. . Is it lack of interest or is there now a better place to stay intouch with Sendmail, Per and the rest? -- David L. Is it lack of interest or is there now a better place to stay in>touch with Sendmail, Per and the rest? I'm still here:-), at least now and then. But even taking into account that people are off on vacations and such, I'm afraid it's a clear long-term trend that the volume of postings here is steadily decreasing. Whether that is because people are increasingly happy with their sendmail setup, or because sendmail has a steadily decreasing number of users, or because technical/text groups on Usenet in general have a steadily decreasing number of users (the youngsters don't know that Usenet exists...), I don't know. I'm also not aware of (actually pretty sure that there doesn't exist) any other discussion forum dedicated to sendmail. --Per Hedeland per@hedeland.org |

It has just turned out that exim has an excellent documentation, suits my needs better than sendmail, is more convenient to configure, and seems to have a better security history. Still I have about a dozen sendmails, but mostly in the role of MSA sending daily reports and crontab mails from FreeBSD servers. And yes, we have a Communigate too. -- Victor Sudakov, VAS4-RIPE, VAS47-RIPN 2:5005/49@fidonet http://vas.tomsk.ru/ |

This does show several days with very few posts, but never a 24 hour period with no new articles available. Could you be having finger problems with a killfile or something? Going back further; 1/07 2/07 3/07 4/07 5/07 6/07 7/07 8/07 560 558 565 595 463 449 369 438 1H03 2H03 1H04 2H04 1H05 2H05 1H06 2H06 1H07 12374 11148 8904 4998 4145 3259 3631 3540 3190 so yes, postings have been decreasing over the longer term, but the group seems to be alive and well. Actually, if you look at similar statistics for other Usenet newsgroups, you'll find the same general trend of decreasing article counts, but to paraphrase Sam Clemens (aka, Mark Twain) "the announcement of my death was premature".
