My sendmail appears to authenticate from external networks ok when I do it
manually via telnet, but seems to fail when using outlook. How can this be!? |

The only common authentication method, from memory, is LOGIN, which SASL doesn't support by default. When you connect via telnet, what is displayed in the 250-AUTH line after you EHLO? -- Rob MacGregor (BOFH) Rule 37: "There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'" |
