Why should hosting companies not do this ? And where did you learn about these features... I have bought the sendmail cookbook but as I'm looking now it goes up to 8.12.10... : [ is there any newer books ? |

Because most hosting companies will assign only one IP as the real machine IP, which will have F/R matching names, to assign other IP's is cumbersome and messy and a pure waste of IPs. you may have many many mail.example.com mail.example.net mail.test.com all on the same machine, mostly to one IP, sometimes with their own IP, however when that machnie sends out, its common that it uses its real machine name, the primary IP of the box. A typical host server may hold up to 1500 plus domains, no admin is going to go to hte trouble to configure the box so that each sending out smtp session matches the domain, OK may be some do, but you'll find you are paying more for that service. > > And where did you learn about these features... I have used them since they were hacks in previous series, however they are standard features as of 8.14.0 (bad mx feature requires you to build with regex though). As for new stuff in sendmail, you should always read the release notes ![]() - -- Cheers Res Vote for your favourite MTA at http://polls.ausics.net/v3.php -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFGTiOdsWhAmSIQh7MRAsT7AKCsyU4OQZFgbPWLluX/FXAwhZcS8gCfWb7X 0zCh1rnfmh4imSR+aMY0N54= =cJmU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
