Hi
I've to reinstall my system and I was wondering about changing my MTA to sendmail. Could you give me opinion about sendmail. My priority is safety and performance. Is it better than postfix. Ziemek |

I don't deal in MTA wars. Use the one you like. Sendmail and postfix are both qualified modern mailers. -- Dick Hoogendijk -- PGP/GnuPG key: F86289CE ++ http://nagual.nl/ | Solaris 10 11/06 ++ |

"Comparative studies" do exist anyway. Comparing "leading MTAs" in "not easy to challenge" way is a very tricky business :-) -- [pl>en: Andrew] Andrzej Adam Filip : anfi@priv.onet.pl : anfi@xl.wp.pl Before You Ask: http://anfi.homeunix.net/sendmail/B4UAsk-Sendmail.html http://anfi.homeunix.net/sendmail/ |

Is it better than postfix. No one here can tell you who you are. If you are used to Postfix, and it isn't causing you trouble that you can point at but not fix, you should probably stay with it. Sendmail excels at complex environments where you need behavior that you can't readily make Postfix do, perhaps because there's a strong case that no one should be doing them. On the other hand, Postfix makes some things very easy that Sendmail cannot do without learning to write (or blindly cribbing) the sendmail.cf language. -- Now where did I hide that website... |

I haven't found either be inherently more safe as any problems found in both products are quickly corrected. While I can say sendmail gives me more control and has greater versatility, a postfix user might say sendmail is too complicated. I might respond by saying postfix is too simple as evidenced by the relative wealth of options in sendmail and the next thing you know you have this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ObaAcV33xqk dp |
