Hey all,
I recently downgraded a box to a "shell" server, and since my mail delivery happens to the homedir, I decided to simply set up an alias in the default system that points like this: local-host-names: oldprime.gushi.org virtusertable: @oldprime.gushi.org %1@prime.gushi.org The hostname of the machine is oldprime.gushi.org However, for whatever reason whenever I try to send to a user in the NIS maps, it gets bounced (even though NIS should not (as far as I figure) be checked by this recipe, as it's expected to deliver offsite, so why would it be checking local users?) Jan 18 02:39:09 <mail.notice> oldprime sm-mta[12460]: l0I7d9Ci012460: <testcase@oldprime.gushi.org>... User unknown Jan 18 02:39:09 <mail.info> oldprime sendmail[12459]: l0I7d9D3012459: to=The Test Case <testcase@oldprime.gushi.org>, ctladdr=danm (1001/1001), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30587, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=5.1.1, stat=User unknown |

On doing some more research I've seen a lot of talk of NSS. This is
FreeBSD 4. There is not to my knowledge an NSSwitch option. Sendmail IS compiled with -DNIS. I am able to use all the standard system calling tools to look up my users (like finger, id, etc) that are being imported via NSS. In searching, I find a lot of mention of alias maps in NSS. I don't want alias maps, I just want to take all mail for server "oldprime" and forward it to user @ prime. There are masquerading options and the like, but I don't THINK that's what I want (i.e. I still want "oldprime" to have an OUTBOUND sendmail, but to do no delivery, so that if a user has a cron job that emails him, it will still work). If anyone needs any further output, please just ask. |

One more thing:
The redirect apparently DOES work, as my postmaster account on prime is getting all the bounces from oldprime not being able to send to alleged non-users (root and my login both exist in the password file, so it works there). |
