Q: Can I use SendMail as a relay server transfering mail to an ISPs host
where SMTP authentication is required? Background: I have an antique Domino 4.6 server at a small company which I must keep sending mail from a WorkFlow application. My hosting provider requires mandatory SMTP authentication now. There is no way to setup Domino 4.6 to provide the password to the relay server. My idea is to setup a small a Sendmail server, which, within the LAN, will receive mail from the Domino server without SMTP authentication and relay it to the hosting server authenticated with the account password. I cannot send mail stright from the Domino around the hosting mail application because in my country a permanent IP address is prohibitably expensive at the monopolist telecom company, while mail sent from a dynamic IP address is too often recognised as spam.
