Does anyone know if:

1) MS Outlook supports STARTTLS over IMAP?
2) In the default Outlook desktop configuration, does that happen
automatically if the IMAP server sends the right header saying
that the server supports STARTTLS?
3) (off-topic for c.m.imap, but may as well ask) Does something
similar happen between Outlook and POP?
4) (Also off-topic) Does something similar happen with SMTP (i.e.
will Outlook normally send STARTTLS to SMTP servers that
understand it)?

I'm not a Windows user and have no convenient access to Outlook so I
can't easily test these things. Thanks.

yes

no*

same as with IMAP accounts*

no*

* in all these cases you have to configure Outlook to use a secure
connection (SSL) - not a big thing at all (using google you'll find a
couple of instruction sets, even with images)
