Hi,
I'm using Photoshop Elements 3 on Mac OS X.
When I open a tiff-file with diagramms, I recogniced that the image quality does remarkably decrease,
especiallywhen I rescale the images.
Why is that? How can I increase the quality, or, at least, keep it?
For instance, when loading the tiffs in MS Word, rescaling gives better results. In photoshop, the
images look somehow fuzzy, like low resolution or sth.
Is there a setting I have to change to keep the sharpness?

Go to Edit>Preferences>General..., and set Image Interpolation to "Nearest
Neighbor". This will probably be the look you are after.

There is a good reason for the fuzziness. It is due to the logic behind
resizing an image mathematically. In your case this reasoning does not
apply.

Hi Chris,

The option is elsewhere in Elements. The Nearest Neighbor setting is in
the "Image>Resize>Image Size..." command in Elements 6 - it may be the same
for Elements 3. Also, make sure that for viewing the image you are zoomed
to 100 percent (double click on the magnifying glass).

I have several versions of Photoshop Element came with my hardwares but I
never installed none to know what it may look like, what it has to offer
etc.. BUT I strongly believe that just like about ALL programs relate to
graphic with the SAVE option should have the option to set the Quality
Level, so I believe the Photoshop Element should have this very basic
requirement.

Where to locate it? it should be somewhere in the menu before you confirm
the SAVE command (OK). And depending on the program/version it could be
from 1-10 or 1-100%, or Lowest - Highest.

Maybe this will ??
I use IrfanView to open /resize /sharpen and all the other options it
provides.
When I open an image and select "print" it brings up a "print preview "
screen with all the options as to size, portrait /landscape .margins
etc. Also pictures may be resized whilst maintaining the aspect ratio.
IrfanView is free and is certainly what you need --
