the other day I was ing hubby with some Targa format files instead of copying the image I opened it from his comp over the network BIG MISTAKE I got the activation screen b/c PS thinks I changed my computer configuration!!! this stupidity in trying to prevent piracy is only annoying and DUH has not stopped any cracked versions from getting out there Has this happened to any of you?? If it hasn't just a warning ................... so it doesn't happen to you |

We're happy with 7 !!! 3 machine network, PS only on the 'Graphics' (fastest), but open and work on an image anywhere in the system or in external storage units. No Hassle laVista either ... <G> |

They were almost enough to make me upgrade but I'm still putting it off. I could not work without smart objects. Have fun, Ron |

I found the new features in ACR 4.2 (I think .2 but after initial release
version) to be of the most benefit - anyway those that think CS3 is not justified in upgrading to are very wrong! Malcolm |

In this, although it might be your opinion that some are 'missing' new features, the only one 'wrong' is thee. |

> what ways do you find them useful?? Hi KW, One of the nice things is that part of an image can be selected, with lasso or whatever, and converted to a smart object. Then this new layer can then be transformed repeatedly without reinterpolating. Smart objects can also be nested for multiple masks and styles. Things like raw images and Illustrator files can be placed into PS then duplicated or instanced. For raws this makes repeated changes to curves, crop or exposure blending very convenient. For AI files it makes adding vector to bitmaps or converting vectors to bitmaps very flexible. Here is a quick example of something really simple. http://picasaweb.google.com/ronviers/CustomButtons Sometimes I make custom buttons for the GUI of another application - notice how in this screencap that I have both PS and AI open. Fist I open PS, then I open AI via the smart object layer, then I add or edit new buttons or change the visibility of the layer that I want to work with in PS, then I close AI and edit or export in PS. Here are some projects I did that used smart objects. http://picasaweb.google.com/ronviers/SmartObjects http://picasaweb.google.com/ronviers/ButtonProject http://picasaweb.google.com/ronviers/PuzzleProject I'm no expert on this, these are just some of the things I have found to be ful. Hopefully others will have some better suggestions. Be sure to ask if I need to clarify any of the above. Good luck, Ron |
