Hello,
I want to develop a webmail that will use a database to store email messages (not an IMAP client). I'm currently doing some research to find which database is the best suited. I plan to save attachments on the file system (in subdirectories) instead of blobs, so the database will only have text. I read this interesting discussion on the Dovecot list: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.mail.imap.dovecot/12817 Some people suggest using MySQL, others suggest more "simple" databases such as Berkley DB or SQLite. My priority is speed, and I want to be able to perform advanced searches. I want really fast search results, even if the database is very big. Would you use MySQL as a database backend to store emails? Would you rather use somethig else? Why, why not? Thanks. |
