I want to develop a webmail that will use a database to store email
messages (not an IMAP client). I'm currently doing some research to
find which database is the best suited. I plan to save attachments on
the file system (in subdirectories) instead of blobs, so the database
will only have text.

Some people suggest using MySQL, others suggest more "simple"
databases such as Berkley DB or SQLite. My priority is speed, and I
want to be able to perform advanced searches. I want really fast
search results, even if the database is very big.

Would you use MySQL as a database backend to store emails? Would you
rather use somethig else? Why, why not?
