Sorry for the newbie question.

I am working with MySQL for the first time in a large table
environment. In MS SQL, there is a way to make the database logging
level "low" to increase your overall speed. Are there settings like
this in MySQL? Also, any other settings to improve performance would
be much appreciated. My first box is a Quad Xeon with 8GB ram and
8x150GB SAS drives.

There is a lot to tell about it. Luckily MySQL AB wrote it
all down in the fine manual. If you have more questions
