stopword list ingores german umlaute

Hello,

I have a german stopword list.
My Problem is that stop words containing
special characters like
german umlaute (ä,ü, etc.) are not treated as stopwords.

What could be the reason for this?

almost all things related to strings and words are related to character set
utilized in the table and/or fields description. examine your character set and
see if that makes a difference.
