Par défaut How to use 2nd drive with Server 2008 ???`

I've installed Windows Server 2008 Standard on one of my computers. This
computer as two high-speed 160gb drives, but the install only used one
drive. There was no opportunity to spread the installation to both drives.
I would like to place all user data (including the "Documents and Settings"
and "Users" folders) onto the second drive. I had hoped to boot WinPE, copy
the folders, and then establish a junction link to the 2nd drive. These
folders seem to be loaded with junction links already, and I'm not clear on
how to accomplish this task.

Can anyone shed some light on how to redirect these folders, either in the
install of post-install?

Hello Michael,
Use the unattended settings of ProfileDirectory and ProgramData
to relocate those folders.
See this article:
949977 Relocation of the Users directory and the ProgramData directory to a
disk drive other than the disk drive that contains the Windows directory on
a Windows Vista-based or a Windows Server 2008-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;949977

Also the Windows Automated Installation Kit for building unattended files.

Hello Michael,

Why do you think, it should install over 2 disks? Will only work if you prepare
a RAID. I am not sure if it is a good/supported solution. Why will you do
it? You can configure profiles and users folder onto a shared drive/folder.

Best regards

Are the "Documents and Settings" and "Users" folders used just for local
console users?

I was hoping to be able to backup ALL user data without having to do
repeated backups of the OS and applications.

Hello Michael,

Yes and also if you logon with remote desktop. And as Darrell Gorter posted,
it is possible to redirect the folders. For the backup part i mentioned to
use a share on a file server to store all profiles and user data. Is the
server domain controller or running in a domain as a member?

Best regards

A the moment it's a standalone test server. Depending on how testing goes,
I may use it for ny virtual test lab. I'm considering using a text-only
install to host virtual machines on a multi-core system. It would be
desireable to have a common data volume. So right now, I'm trying to see
what I can do with it.
