I need space on the C drive of a Windows 2003 standard server.
Is it OK to do any of the following to this directory: 1. Delete it 2. Move it 3. Compress it Thanks! Robert Naydol |

Hello Bob,
With diskcleanup check first. Then if possible you can move the pagefile to another location. If you have installed updates and be sure that you have no need for uninstalling them you can delete the Uninstall folders or move to another location if not sure, EXCEPT the HFMIG folder, this has to stay. Also stop automatic update service and delete the softwaredistribution folder under the c:\windows, then start the service again, it will be recreated. The installer folder i don't know about this, but on my 2003 fully patched machine it is only 51 MB. Because this is a SQL server the Windows Installer directory is 2GB.
If I could compress this, I will save additional space. Thanks! "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > Hello Bob, > > With diskcleanup check first. Then if possible you can move the pagefile > to another location. Hello,
I have the same issue...I need to reclaim space on the C: drive. Diskcleanup has done what it can, but I still need more space. Before trying the suggestions listed, I have a few questions. 1. Do I need to stop any services or processing before moving the pagefile? 2. If I stop automatic updates and delete the softwaredistribution folder, how can I get it to be recreated on a different drive? 3. Will I need any of the files that are in the softwaredistribution folder? I appreciate any you can give me. If I need to post these questions separately, please let me know. I am new to the newsgroups. Thank you. "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > Hello Bob, > > With diskcleanup check first. Then if possible you can move the pagefile > to another location. No, after the updates are installed you can safely delete it, do it myself very often without any problem. > I appreciate any you can give me.
