The in my CS2 has stopped working both on the F1 button and
/Photoshop . Any clues on how to retore it other than a
complete reinstall?

Try the well know remedy;
Click on all three buttons shift/Ctrl/Alt at once
while PS is opening. (Immediately after you clicked on the PS icon.)
Answer yes on the POP UP question.
