I am using Fireworks to slice a graphically intense HTML email and no matter
how I export it, I end up with a whole bunch of spacer.gif's in the code.

I have tried, nested tables, no spacers. Empty table cells: none

I have used FX to successfully slice HTML emails many times without exportIng
out the spacer.gif. Please . I need to get this fixed by tomorrow.

I wouldn't suggest using the code that Fireworks produces in your production HTML. The issue you're describing is a perfect example why.

Dreamweaver of course! Set up your table structure and then plug in the
individual slices you create in Fireworks. It gives you much much more control
over the resulting source code. If you already have your slices composed in
Fireworks, it should be relatively simple of create an html/css framework to
match.
