Gradient "Handle" not showing up in FW8

I made a square and filled it with a gradient but then the handle doesnt show up to turn it or resize etc....

Does anyone know how to invoke the handle?

I figured it out, I should have been selecting the square with the pointer tool instead of the subselection tool.
