Par défaut Virtual DC (Windows Server 2003)

Hi All,

I'm thinking of using MS Virtual Server to run some VMs hosting Active
Directory 2003. I don't see why not.

Any advice?

Thanks a lot. I did google, but was not as lucky as you.

I'll share a couple of tips I've run into with regards to running you
DC's on VMs. The biggest thing I'd warn about is if you have your Host
server in the same domain as your DC's and all of your DC's are
virtual on that host you could get into a situation where you can't
login because you have nothing to authenticate to. This scenario
depends on some setup but it can happen. couple pretty simple work
arounds; 1) have your host in a Workgroup and not be dependent on the
DC's it running, 2) Don't have all DC's running on same host, if you
have multiple hosts, 3) have one 'hardware' based DC, so that if the
virtuals are down you can authenticate.

This would be on top of that MS Document, just some things to think
about. Good luck.

I believe MS considers people will not think about that or even consider not
doing it, but it's totally true!

I do agree even though they might consider this (or whatever the thought
is), they should put in the top of the documentation.
