I notice Google Groups has become far more unreliable and buggy in the
last few months. There is too much spam in most groups for one thing.
Profiles often are not updated with a posters latest post. Searching
brings up many duplicate results which it would not do before.
Sometimes google groups is entirely down for many hours. I get the
impression folks at Google don't care too much about it anymore, what
do you think.

I'll use Google Groups for a quick post when I run into some
technical problem at work - hoping to find some replies when I
get home or before work the next day.

Having said that... I find a web-based interface *really*
cumbersome for reading NGs - and can't imagine relying on Google
Groups exclusively.

I've use Forete's "Agent" for both eMail and NGs practically
since it first came out and am a happy camper. Also, it seems
to me like Outlook does NGs too. If server access were an issue
and I couldn't afford $12.00 per year for Individual.net - and,
I'd try some of the many freebie NG servers - after, of course,
verifying that my provider didn't have NG servers (Verizon does,
for one...)

Like what? At least a 3rd of the traffic comes from GG, but there's no
alternative, other than other GG wannabes. Many of us are stuck behind
corporate firewalls that do not open NNTP ports during the day

We have to access the Internet through our internal proxy, if I try
use a different proxy I can't get out of the firewall
