I am not sure if this this is the appropriate group for my question,
however, I interested in other's opinions about this. I have seen a few .US domain extension where they are using the .US as part of the name itself. For example: auctionsurpl.us Obviously there is no real value to the domain name itself (sell on ebay or Aftermarket). COM is the Cadillac not .US. However, I sort of find this pretty clever. Any thoughts? |

Please don't confuse the domain hierarchy with dos filesystem type file extentions. If only because the domain system allows many more subdomains than just ``domain.tld''. > as > part of the name itself. Note that many more TLDs can be (and are) used this way. The value of a domain is only what people are willing to pay for it. Whichever is the 'cadillac' depends on where you are and what business you're in. Since most people don't know any better, .com will remain favoured for a while. Given the widespread non-use of the hierarchical features of DNS I've been tempted to propose to just do away with all that and go back to a flat namespace, so we can concentrate on optimizing our systems for that. Then again, I don't know what the future will bring either. -- j p d (at) d s b (dot) t u d e l f t (dot) n l . This message was originally posted on Usenet in plain text.
