I'm kind of new to the whole mail server arena, but I'm interested in
getting a simple mail server setup for my phpbb forums, and some other
php scripts. I have the domain: kotori.hopto.org what else would i
need in order to get my server to send mail out. I have already
installed Postfix as an alternative to the default sendmail on the box
via the ports.

I have cable internet service through RR, and my server's hostname is
MOD1.
am i correct in saying that the MX record for my domain name should be:
'cpe-24-174-157-11.satx.res.rr.com'
that is what "host -t ptr 24.174.157.11" returns.
or should it be:
MOD1.kotori.hopto.org

Any into this would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that no-ip.com already has an MX record created correctly:

# dig mx kotori.hopto.org
kotori.hopto.org. 60 IN MX 5 kotori.hopto.org.
kotori.hopto.org. 60 IN A 24.174.157.11

You probably need to make some basic initial configuration changes to your /etc/postfix/main.cf file.
