I've configured Postfix to deliver mail to users' home directories
(/home/username/mail). How do I get Cyrus to look here for mail
instead of /var/spool/imap? Thank you for any suggestions, Dave.

Cyrus uses its own mail database. Cyrus does not read standard mailboxes.
You must use Cyrus's deliver program to receive mail into Cyrus's mail
storage (/var/spool/imap, in your case).

Not this way, as $HOME. The storage space is not dynamic in this sense.
Please read "man imapd.conf -> defaultpartion + partition-name".

I repeat: Cyrus uses its own specific mail database storage format, and
there's only a single mail database for all mail accounts.

I'm sure there's a configuration options to keep all mail in /usr/foo/blah,
instead of /var/spool/imap, if that floats your boat, but there's going to
be one location for Cyrus's mail database, that contains every mailbox. This
is inherent to Cyrus's design.
