Par défaut resolution to one address

I am having issues with one of my Windows 2003 dns servers. When I try and
resolve one specific name on the from the dns server it fails. I can see in
the cache that it has gottent he IP address of 2 name servers of the address
I am trying to resolve but it cannot get the A record. If I restart the dns
server and perform the same action - it will resolve the A record. Can
anyone give me some pointers as to where to start troubleshooting this?

It sounds like the DNS server for this domain could be the problem, what is
the domain name so I can test it?
I've seen this happen when the DNS server itself has incorrect NS records in
the zone, your DNS server caches the incorrect NS records and the domain
stops resolving.

www.whoc-conference.com

It actually works on another one of my dns servers so I doubt it is an issue
with their domain but any suggestions are ful????

Hi,

I think you can enable DNS debug logging to check how come the two dns
servers' behavior are different.

To enable DNS debug logging, right click the DNS server -> properties
->Debug Logging ->Enable it and choose a log path.

You can enable it on both servers and check the different.

Hi,

Here is Vincent again.

As we know, there is a local balancing mechanism used by DNS servers called
Round robin which is used to share and distribute network resource loads.By
default, the DNS Server service uses round robin to order resource records
returned in an answer of the host name resolved to more than one mapped RR.
Check following link:

ows2000/en/advanced//sag_DNS_imp_RoundRobin.htm>

Therefore, my thoughts is: when the dns get the incorrect ip address the
first time and cached it. After you restart the DNS server, it retrived the
second ip address. For the other dns server, it got the correct ip first
time and cached it.
