Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have a simple question about the "Scavenge Stale Resource Records" function. OS: Windows 2003 Server I am finding myself coming close to using all my IP addresses (192.168.x.x, 255.255.255.0 range), and we are using Dynamic IP addressing internally. I see I have many computers in my 'Forward Lookup Zones' that are mapped to numerous IP addresses. I would like to free those up. Would this be done by using 'Scavenge Stale Resource Records'? My concern is that I have manually entered some IP addresses (A Hosts) and words to redirect internal users to certain servers. Would these also get removed by setting the 'Scavenge' settings? Would I need to go into DHCP and reserve those manually created IPs in DHCP prior to doing the Scavenge? Thanks in advance for your assustance folks, as always. Have a great day. Chris H. |

Let me rephrase that... I dont really have dups, but older computers
that have since changed names on the domain... Looks like that may be more the issue... can those be freed up somehow? Is there a way to see the timestamp when they were last destected on the network, then removed from DNS if its been over a month etc... Thanks again. |

Scavenging must be enabled at the server level and zone level. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Hi
adding to Kevin response: Records manually added don't have the option "Delete this record when it becomes stale" selected or the record time stamp. To see this options you must enable advance view on the view menu. -- I hope that the information above s you Good Luck Jorge Silva MCSA Systems Administrator <Christopher.Hoche@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1153830720.523842.16700@m79g2000cwm.googlegro ups.com... > Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen, > > I have a simple question about the "Scavenge Stale Resource Records" > function. > > OS: Windows 2003 Server > > I am finding myself coming close to using all my IP addresses > (192.168.x.x, 255.255.255.0 range), and we are using Dynamic IP > addressing internally. > > I see I have many computers in my 'Forward Lookup Zones' that are > mapped to numerous IP addresses.
